6th "Pursuit of Ideals" Symposium
The 6th "Pursuit of Ideals" Symposium was held at the Canon Global Management Institute (CGMI) on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
After an opening address by Tetsuro Hoshino, Secretary General, reports were given on a research study on "Sea" and the first two research studies on "Food" supported by the Canon Foundation. Interim reports on three research studies looking at the key topic of "Food" were presented, after which Chairman Hiroyuki Yoshikawa offered these words of encouragement to researchers: "Society is improved and developed by many experts, and the scientists supporting them, fulfilling their respective roles. Within the enormous human challenge of 'pursuit of ideals', I would like you to think about what role research by scientists plays."
Nine short presentations were given next and, after a change of venue, lively discussions unfolded about research topics at the poster session. The report meeting concluded with Shinichiro Ogaki, Chief of the Screening Committee, who gave comments on the report meeting and expressed his hopes for the researchers in their future activities.
Following the report meeting, a social gathering was held for the participants to communicate with one another and exchange comments and ideas in an amicable atmosphere.
