"Pursuit of Ideals" & "Science and Technology that Achieve a Good Future" Symposium 2020" held online"

On November 17, the Canon Foundation’s "Pursuit of Ideals" & "Science and Technology that Achieve a Good Future" Symposium 2020” was held online with the participation of Screening Committee members, researchers receiving grants-in-aid, and employees of Canon Inc.

For this symposium, grants-in-aid recipients made presentations on their studies of “Food,” a topic of under the “Pursuit of Ideals” Research Grant Program offered by the Canon Foundation until 2019.

The symposium consisted of three reports on findings for studies that concluded this March and four interim reports following a year after the pertinent research commenced, both of which were accompanied by a Q&A, and were followed by five research progress reports. The presentations made were full of enthusiasm.

A number of Screening Committee members were asked to gather at a venue specially prepared for the symposium, where they offered assessments and advice on research findings, voiced their expectations for future developments, and gave other feedback. The result was a symposium that was rich in content.

To close the report meeting at the symposium, Chief of the Screening Committee Shinichiro Ogaki offered his general comments on the symposium and expressed his expectations for the future, saying: “Your findings, the culmination of three years of research under the Canon Foundation, were both intellectually-stimulating and genuinely fantastic. The research discussed the interim and progress reports was also varied and broad in scope. Your final findings are eagerly awaited.”
