Canon Foundation hosts the “Science and Technology that Create New Industry” Research Results Report Meeting 2023

On August 1 in the Hall & Conference Square located in the Marunouchi Building, Chiyoda City, Tokyo, the Canon Foundation hosted its “Science and Technology that Create New Industry” Research Results Report Meeting 2023. Twenty-one reporters, five research collaborators, and members of the Screening Committee were in attendance at the venue, with the remaining attendees participating online. The reports consisted of eight research results reports following the completion of the grant period and thirteen interim reports conducted through a poster session for the second year of research (including two reports for the fourth year).

For the final results reports, research results were reported for each of four sessions respectively covering ICT, semiconductors, materials, and biotechnology. Chaired by Screening Members who specialized in the domain under each session, these reports took the form of fruitful presentations of results by the researchers followed by a lively Q&A.

In the poster session, members of the Screening Committee offered their advice on future research implementation methods and other areas to researchers who were still midway through their research period. Attendees also had the opportunity to interact vigorously with each other.

Screening Committee Chairman Yoshihito Osada closed the proceedings with the below encouraging comments: “The presenters’ passionate and enthusiastic reports of their research results greatly impressed me. I can tell just much the content of presentations has been improving year after year, to the point that I dare say the presentations and discussions that took place this year were the most memorable and substantial yet. I have high expectations that a good number of researchers to lead the coming era will emerge from among your ranks. I hope you will pursue your research with an even stronger awareness of how it will be positioned in terms of historical and global significance. If you do, I have no doubt that you will be able to reach great heights going forward.”
